19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard surfaces

A revitalized Medvedev secured his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a difficult year, achieving just a single victory at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with former mentor Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has gradually improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested competitive triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This marks the player's maiden title after the Italian tournament and first on a hard court after March of that year.

Success also means the Russian has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a championship is particularly special," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my child Victoria, because the first title I won when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

His counter-punching play style and frequent reactions on court had led some to wonder if his skill to compete at the elite level was finished.

Yet the player has altered his approach in the past month, attempting to come to the net and play aggressively, supported by an better serving game.

Medvedev came back from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky opponent, winning 4 of the concluding five games to take the lead.

The competitors traded break points in the following set before Moutet, striving for his maiden tour title, seized the initiative to force a final set.

The opponent rescued 4 early break points in a close final set before the Russian won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev secured the win with a point at the net, with Moutet failing to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
